New South is proud to announce the winners of our 2015 Writing Contest:

PROSE, judged by Rebecca Makkai

1st place: “Birds of Paradise” by Aria Curtis

2nd place: “The Transit of Venus” by Rebecca Gummere

3rd place: “Castle Links Creek” by Jennifer Julian

POETRY, judged by Roger Reeves

1st place: “We Are Always Both in the Field” by Alicia Wright

2nd place: “Noah” by Frances Olive

3rd place: “Opening” by Kate Pendoley

Our first place winners will be awarded $1,000 prizes; second place winners, $250; and third place winners, a three-year subscription to New South. And of course, all of these pieces will be published in the Fall issue, New South 8.2.

Many thanks to our judges and a special thank you to all who submitted their work for consideration. We received a record number of entries to this year’s contest, and we’re so grateful for your support!
